Leo Carillo Ranch Historic Park

Once part of the original 2,538 acre working rancho and vacation retreat of Leo Carrillo (who acted in almost 100 films from 1927n to 1950 and co-starred in the TV series The Cisco Kid,) this historic ranch is an extraordinary educational and recreational resource.

The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch

Noted for being one of the most beloved spring traditions in the area, the ranch opens annually in March for six to eight weeks showcasing the Giant Tecolote Ranunculus.

The Museum of Making Music

The Museum of Making Music presents visitors with an interactive journey through a century of musical instrument innovations that helped shape American popular music from the 1890s to the present day. It includes over 500 vintage instruments on display, hundreds of audio and video examples at the push of a button and an interactive area where visitors can play on a variety of hands-on instruments. The Museum also presents a number of special events and educational outreach activities.

Carlsbad State Beach

A 4-mile family-friendly beach with easy water access. Also known as Tamarack Beach.

South Carlsbad State Beach

Beach-goers choose this beach for its swimming, surfing, skin diving, fishing and picnicking. The bluff-top 222-site campground is located at 7201 Carlsbad Blvd. and offers AT&T Wi-Fi.

A gua Hedionda Lagoon

Agua Hedionda Lagoon is a saltwater wetland and watershed and offers year-round recreational and commercial use. The lagoon includes mud flats, salt and freshwater marsh, and deep water and is actually comprised of three lagoons: a 66-acre outer lagoon, a 27-acre middle lagoon and 293-acre inner lagoon.

Hidden Canyon Trails

This short trails connects the dog park with Hidden Canyon Community Park, which features two playgrounds, several picnic areas and large expanses of lawn.

Carlsbad Skateboard Park

This 15,000 square foot boarder’s paradise featuring bowls, concrete, a street course and a beginners’ area. Helmet, elbow pads and kneepads required.

Batiquitos Lagoon

Batiquitos Lagoon is a coastal wetland north of San Diego between the cities of Carlsbad and Encinitas. It is one of the few remaining tidal wetlands on the southern California coast of the United States.

Child rens Pool La Jolla

The Children's Pool also known as the Casa, is a small beach partially protected by a seawall. The original intention was to create a fully protected swimming area, but sand has filled in much of the area inside the wall. This is a very picturesque beach with a panoramic view. During much of the year, seals and sea lions are present on or near the beach and a reserve for these marine mammals, called Seal Rock, is just offshore.

The Children's Pool, is within a short walk of the commercial area of the community of La Jolla. Grassy park areas can be found a short distance to the north and south. Several small beaches are nearby including Wipeout Beach to the south and Shell Beach to the north.

Torrey Pines

Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is located within San Diego city limits and yet remains one of the wildest stretches of land on our Southern California coast! Because of the efforts and foresight of the people in this area, 2000 acres of land are as they were before San Diego was developed -with the chaparral plant community, the rare and elegant Torrey pine trees, miles of unspoiled beaches, and a lagoon that is vital to migrating seabirds. There are 8 miles of trails, a visitor center, and guided nature walks on weekends and holidays.


Cabrillo National Monument
Climbing out of his boat and onto shore in 1542, Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo stepped into history as the first European to set foot on what is now the West Coast of the United States.
